Situated in the heart of Gstaad, Chalet Miramonti enjoys spectacular views of the mountains and Gstaad Valley. Tara Bernerd & Partners was responsible for the full interior architecture and design of the Chalet, appointing and working closely with local architects Hauswirth Architektur.
When undertaking the project, Bernerd and her team were mindful to retain the very Swiss sense of place. The existing exterior was left more or less as it was, but a large, sympathetic extension was added, creating an entirely new wing. Similarly, the interiors were extended and remodelled extensively, with three subterranean levels excavated below the existing structure.
During the process, certain Helvetian references were knowingly and liberally quoted, yet these features were designed in a completely contemporary way, such as the pine panelling used throughout the ground floor, the trunk like handrails of the new glass-sided staircase, and the local grey quartzite of the fireplaces and feature walls, which was extracted from the nearby Vals quarry.
